Support Local Talent

Posted by mark on February 23, 2008 12:46 pm

Hey everyone,

I just got this email from a local jazz group who do arrangements of game music.  I saw them recently at video games live and they were really good.  They’re playing on Monday (Feb. 25th) at 9:30 at the Concord Cafe.

Hey!

My name is Brendan McElroy and I am a music student here at U of T’s Faculty of Music.  I am currently the band leader for a jazz quartet that does jazz arrangements of video game music.  I am a huge fan of the game industry, especially game music, and I am planning on finishing school with a degree in jazz performance and a minor in composition, then attempt to break into the world of game music composition when I am out of school.  I came across your site while promoting our upcoming show.  We are playing at the Concord Cafe on this upcoming monday.  I thought some of you might be interested.  Tell people about us!

Come see a unique performance to hit one of Toronto’s active venues, the Concord Cafe. The Runaway Five will be performing video game music arranged by Brendan McElroy, Brendan Swanson, Alex Goodman and Matt MacLean in the jazz idiom! This night will include performances from many games including: Final Fantasy, Sonic The Hedgehog, Earthbound, Super Mario Brothers, Chrono Trigger, Zelda, Megaman and many more! With the growing popularity of video game music, this will sure be a night to remember. Come be part of a unique audience and help support live jazz and video game music!

The Runaway Five:

Trumpet - Matt MacLean
Piano/Guitar - Alex Goodman
Bass - Brendan McElroy
Drums - Jon McCaslin

Time: 9:30
Cover: $5.00

Take Care,

Brendan

Hi Everyone!

Our meeting this week will be Friday 5-7pm in BA1240.

Our agenda this week is pretty packed since we missed last week’s meeting.

First off we have a play testing session with Jane from Spring Bay Studios showing the current build of her new game.

Next we have a talk from Thuan about this year’s Game Making Deathmatch which will be starting on Friday as well :D.

Time permitting, Mark will do a short tutorial on Adventure Game Studio for any members interested in using it for their games.

Hope to see you all there!

GMD 2008 registration update

Posted by Thuan on February 4, 2008 5:43 pm

Because of the cancellation of last week’s meeting due to the snow storm, I am extending the registration deadline by one day. In other words, it’s $10 to register by Friday February 8 and after that it’s $15.

Also, for convenience, you can also register by sending me email at gmd@utgddc.com with the required info from the form and I’ll arrange a meeting time with you for the registration fee.

UofT snowed in, utGDDC meeting canceled :(

Posted by Thuan on February 1, 2008 10:49 am

Due to the snow storm that happened overnight, the University has decided to close the campus as of 11:00 AM: http://www.provost.utoronto.ca/public/pdadc/0708/weather.htm

So this means that we won’t be having a meeting as planned, unfortunately.
